Default Low Level Cap

I was just wondering if there was any talk of Arena.net making the level cap any greater. Any info would be much appreciated.

I believe A-net said them peeps are not raising the cap.

Why should they raise the cap anyway?

They have said many times that the level cap is not going to change. The game was designed to have a low level cap and the level cap will stay low.

Out of curiousity, why is a level 20 cap seen as "low" anyway? While Final Fantasy enthusiasts might find it a bit low compared to those games, the level caps are all arbitrary anyway, and while some games do have significantly higher caps, others (particularly Dungeons and Dragons offshoots, for example) tend to have similar level caps to Guild Wars, often times even lower.

Anyway, since whatever the level cap is, all PvP players will play at the same level, and the monsters will always be a couple levels higher, all that increasing the level cap will do is increase the amount of grinding players need to do to get experience, and increase all the vital statistics of players, presumably in such a manner that everything will remain balanced. In other words, having a level cap of 10, 20, 50, or 500 will really have no net effect on how Guild Wars will be played, except instead of doing 50 damage with flare at 12 skill on a 500 health opponent, you'll do 500 damage with flare at 32 on a 5000 health opponent. Big deal.

You're correct about levels being abitruary, but there are a couple of reasons why GW is different to other games:
  • You (should) reach level 20, simply by playing the game, you are not required to complete the same section over and over again with the aim of levelling up. Hopefully: no grind.
  • You reach level 20 relatively early in the game, usually before ascension. Which in my mind is only maybe 2/3 of the way through the game.

ANet will not increase the level cap, until they run out of ideas and get desperate i.e. the 8th or 9th expansion. .
